Web User Interfaces

Important: If you are looking for documentation for the Instrument UI, it is available via a separate documentation set that you can access from your system's Start Page, or go directly to the documentation using this URL: [your system URL]/help/doc/Instrument/Default.html

You can also use this direct link: STEP Instrument Documentation

Web UI is an interface to STEP and provides an easy-to-use, intuitive way to work with data in the system, i.e., updating data or creating new objects, etc.

Web UI also provides a customized view of STEP. For example, Web UI can be configured to only show what is needed for a given task, while ignoring other components / screens, which are not required for that task.

The Web User Interfaces documentation will guide you through the prerequisites and basic setup procedures needed to implement a Web UI. You will also find additional information about Web UI components, how to configure the components, and recommendations for using them.

After reading the documentation, Web UI designers (admins) and end users will have a better understanding of all the functionality available through Web UI.

In very rare cases, admins will view labels that appear slightly different than described while in design mode. For example, 'Choose File' may appear in one browser but will appear as 'Browse' in a different browser. There may also be differences between Mac and PC users. However, these are exceptions and Web UI functionality will not differ from what is described in this documentation.

Important: Admin users should be aware that the option of customizing the layout of the Web UI through CSS, which overrides the existing classes, is not supported. Custom CSS can cause issues for customers with each feature release and/or patch update.

For information on the design system, which holds the guidelines for the visual styling, interactive behaviors, and component design within the STEP Web UI, as well as information on typography, capitalization, truncation patterns, the color system, and other design elements, refer to the STEP Web UI Design System topic.
