Flatplanner Page Templates

To plan and design a catalog in Flatplanner, the following template types are used:

  • Publication templates
  • Product templates
  • Page templates

This topic explains page templates, which are unique to Print Flatplanner and are the only type of template that can be created from within the STEP Workbench. For more information on publication templates and product templates, refer to the Publication Templates (here) and Product Templates (here) sections of the Publisher (Adobe InDesign Integration) documentation.

About Page Templates

Page templates drive the layout of flatplanner pages through the use of frames, which are typically arranged in a grid format. These frames determine where product presentations, assets, and free text elements will appear on the page. By linking product templates to these frames, individual products (or product assortments) can be placed into designated locations, with their layouts predetermined by the product template.

Since page template frames must fit within the page boundaries (page size and margins) specified by the publication template, the publication template must be created before page templates can be created.

A high-level summary of how page templates interact with product and publication templates for page layouts is as follows:

  • Publication templates define the sizes and margins of all pages in the publication
  • Page templates define the gridded layouts of individual pages through the use of frames
  • Product templates define the layout that appears within each frame on the page

Standard Page Templates

The most common types of page templates used with Flatplanner are those created in the STEP Workbench. Refer to the next section of this topic, Creating Page Templates (here), for information on how to build page templates in STEP. Page templates can also be created from within InDesign, but this is less common. For more information, refer to the Creating Page Templates in InDesign topic in this guide here.

Galley Page Templates

Another type of page template used with Flatplanner is the Galley style of page template. Galley page templates must be created from within InDesign. For more information, refer to the Galley Templates section of this guide here.
