Commercial Data

Pricing and sales information is commercial data that is typically used in conjunction with Publisher (Adobe InDesign Integration) and Tables. Commercial data consists of terms, which are complied in terms lists. A term is typically related to a product object and is often a combination of a value and a set of conditions such as Minimum Quantity, Maximum Quantity, Start Date, and End Date.

Commercial data can provide access to information about past sales, current inventory levels, and previous placement of a product in a publication. As a result, products can be assigned to publications based on commercial facts such as sales performance, sales forecast, and margins.

Using commercial data lists to store this type of information has the following advantages over using normal attributes:

  • Editing commercial terms for a product does not cause a product to become unapproved.
  • Since terms list configurations are tied to individual publications, the same object can have different pricing in different publications simultaneously, reducing the need for numerous pricing attributes.

The most common locations where commercial data values are used are:

  • Flatplanner Sticker Book, Basket, Financial Summary, and Financial Report
  • Tables that include pricing or other version-specific data
  • InDesign pages, when mounting pricing information directly as part of product presentations
